Can you recommend a dojo in Miami, Florida?

Hey all, have been reading the forums here all day, and have learned alot, so thanks!

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a
Dojo in or around Miami, Florida for aikido?

I've been looking at the dojo search option and theres quite a few, but I was wondering if anyone has any personal recommendations of any specific schools in the area.

One I am considering is:
http://www.aikidosouthflorida.com/

but thats just based on the website

I'm new to aikido and anxious to get started.

Thanks very much in advance, appreciate any help.

djm: There are several good people in Miami:

Pablo Vasquez, a Chiba 6 Dan is at:

Aikido Institute of Miami

2811 Coral Way

Miami, FL 33145

305.446-3044

WeeWow Dumlao, a USAF 3 Dan, formerly of Miami Aikikai, is at:

Festival Plaza,

above the Blue Banquet Hall

8532 SW 8th Street, Suite 282

Miami, Florida 33144

305-264-1773 phone

305-306-3348 pager

http://www.aikikai.com/

Elliot Rifkin and Gustavo Ramos, who with WeeWow were students of (Yamada student) Nelson Andujar, are at:

Miami Aikikai

251 B SW 22nd Avenue

Miami, FL 33135

305-541-0150, 305-670-2311 (fax)

I've trained at least once with all these folks and have no hesitation in recommending them to you. There are others in Miami, but I have no personal experience with them.

djm: That's up the road a bit from you in Miami, but Stephanie is also a strong player with a strong emphasis on basics (Iwama style).

Great thanks! One thing thats my fault though. I'm located more North Miami, the miami shores area.

On such an international forum, I didnt think anyone would know so specifically where I was located, so I used the shotgun approach and just said 'Miami'

Most of those schools you listed are south of me, and since most classes are in the evening I was hoping to head northish to a school to avoid the infamous miami rush hour

If you have any personal experience with more north miami/hollywoodish area schools, please let me know.

Again, thanks very much for all the help! I appreciate the info.

My South Florida geography is a little dated, but I believe Stephanie is in Hallandale/Hollywood, not far from North Miami.

Stephanie is closest to you in Miami Shores. Take I-95 to the Hollywood Blvd exit and go East a mile or so. You'll get truly excellent training there. Cheers!
