I am very interested into looking into martial arts for bettering my self. Please excuse any ignorance I may have, I am new to martial arts. I am looking for something that will teach me more than to fight. I do not like fighting, I am not built for fighting. Would akido be well suited for a type like me? If not, what should I look into?

It sounds as though you are similar to me, and although I have only been training for a while, I would say that aikido suits very well people like you and I.
Aikido doesnt teach you how to fight, I would say, more like how to take control of situations and stop people from fighting/attacking you. I personally definetly prefer this approach to something like karate, or kickboxing.
