Funny (but sad) Seagal Pictures

Hi All,

My brother sent me this link about Seagal and his eating habits

http://www.andongkim.com/articles/20...seagal_fat.htm

Funny but kind of sad really considering that he used to be quite impressive.

The same happened at my old Hapikdo dojo many years ago when the original teacher really porked up.

Happy training

Re: Funny (but sad) Seagal Pictures

It's an epidemic in the US - a seemingly inevitable result of abundant, cheap, overly processed food. Even celebrities are not immune, apparently.

Although, you'd think someone like him would have the resources to hire a personal nutritionist/chef. That plus personal trainers/paid workout buddies is how most celebrities maintain their physiques. With those advantages, it seems like it would be easy. Maybe he doesn't handle his money well and can't afford it, or maybe he just really loves to eat and is willing to pay the price, like Paul Prudhomme.

Re: Funny (but sad) Seagal Pictures

That looks like a doctored photo! Segal has been fat in the past, but in pics I've seen of him lately he had thinned out. I myself am not a fan of Segal but I feel the picture is fake and the comments on the website are horrible. Making fun of someone because they are fat is not aiki in nature one bit.

Re: Funny (but sad) Seagal Pictures

The saddest thing is that its starting to become a problem even in Japan. I have been here for about 6 years now and in that time young people (especially teenagers) are heading towards their western counterparts. Its kind of disgusting to see Japanese high school girls stuffing down fried chicken for breakfast!

Mind you when I went home to Australia I was shocked at how fat people have become since I was last at home.

Hopefully when I begin training in Australia later this year most people will be on the lighter side

Re: Funny (but sad) Seagal Pictures

Hey Tristan, where are you? Funny you say that. I've been saying this for years, and people don't believe me - especially the Japanese  Compared to 8 years ago, the level of female attractiveness has dropped at least a factor of 2 as the equivalent butt proportions increased. And the food, I heartily agree. Not to mention no exercise at almost all the ladies I have met here (guys are not that much better). Fried chicken for breakfast - not my thing either, but remember how braised fish was part of the staple diet instead? Of course, its a totally different type of fat...

Re: Funny (but sad) Seagal Pictures

Hi Gernot,

I am based in Shizuoka/Kanagawa....far from Kyoto!

I guess I dont want to get into the level of attractiveness factor as there are some positive side effects

I think the Japanese well know its happening but chose to ignore it and only in future years will they regret not having done something about it.

I will be interested to see how things are in Sydney, Australia in terms of training and the types of people. I just hope that they are as nice and talented as the people I train with now.

Back to Seagal and general health issues, people need to take responsibilty for their health. I think making fun of people isn`t exactly a good thing but people like Seagal are the `public face` of aikido and should take it seriously. He has used the art to make huge sums of money and therefore should in a sense `give back` by being a great role model and promoter of the art.

Thats my take on it anyway...

Re: Funny (but sad) Seagal Pictures

What do you mean no fried chicken for breakfast? Cold fried chicken at 6am before work is the food of gods. But I do come from Tennessee.

And about it not being "aiki" to make fun of people. First of all define your terms, what are the necessary and sufficent conditions for something to be "aiki"? It really grates my nerves when people say this to one another, because the idea is not very pinned down and seems to me to be quite elusive. If you are going to hassle somebody do it in a straightforward manner. Dont hide behind terms which are as yet undfined. If you can come up with the necessary and sufficient conditions for what is "aiki" AND show me how making fun of fat people violates that then I will concede the point, but I really dont think it is doable.

Also, it doesnt look photoslopped to me. The man is gettin old isnt he?

I'm pretty sure that the "fat" picture is fake. If you'll notice, the "widow's peak" in his hairline is way off center, indicating a photo stretch gone bad.

Hehe, well let's not go there then My latest informal statistics show that compared to a few years back 1 in 8 girls is kind of cute, when it used to be 1 in 3. Here in Kyoto that is. I'm not at liberty to discuss my criteria either, but the process of evaluation does involve some expense for massage oil

Yeah, I've heard from my Aussie mates that broads in Australia have given the word a bad name. But that the Asian communities are exciting! I'm sure you'll find your way around, astute fellow that you are.

And if you do get a chance to visit Kyoto, give me a buzz.

Cheers, Gernot

Re: Funny (but sad) Seagal Pictures

What people dont seem to realise is that seagal must be pushing 60 by now. Isnt gaining weight a common thing as people enter middle/old age?

They're all screaming about the rock n roll, but I would say that it's getting old. - REFUSED.

He did vacation there, and did wear those clothes (according to many pics found on a fan site). That particular pic itself I am unable to locate.

Re: Funny (but sad) Seagal Pictures

Hoping you can run faster scared than he can angry right?

In all honesty, I'm not going to judge someone by their looks or weight. I've taken some pretty horrible pictures in my short time. I'm sure I'm just being the party police and everyone is just having fun, carry on nothing to see here

I enjoy hearing his views, interviews and some of his insites.
His new movies are quite horrible and I wouldn't suggest anyone rent them. I've heard he wanted out of a movie deal but the contact dudes wouldnt let him off the hook so the quality of his acting reflects that.

You got it. Fear is a greater motivator than anger.

I'm glad to see these kind of comments. AnnMarie made a similar point a while back. It's been a long time coming, though.

Re: Funny (but sad) Seagal Pictures

I think that being fat is almost like a sin. The Bible says you should take care of your body.

About the Americans and their bad eating habits: Did you know they are having really big problems with their graveyards? The bodies are not decomposing anymore because of all the preservatives they eat. They say it's better than mummies.

I know, gross!

Some , lots of and just a pinch of
