Grooved Bokken

Anyone ever play around with a Bokken with a groove? I just picked up one of these. Its pretty cool, it gives some audio feedback. I just picked it up for some suburi and solo kata practice.

Re: Grooved Bokken

I got one like for Christmas but have not done anything but solo practice with it. Compared to a Kingfisher bokken the grip feels chunkier and a little bit cramped.

Re: Grooved Bokken

are you sure you want the audio? what if you fight off a bunch of ninja in the dark? you don't want to give away your position and strike do you? otherwise, those ninja might likely shooting you with spit balls.

Re: Grooved Bokken

A previous student of mine had one of these. They are fun to play with. I would only use it for solo practice as it will likely not fair well with serious contact. Having the audio feedback is nice. The sound should be the same pitch regardless of the cut and on both right and left side cutting.

by your question it seams to me that you are new in Budo

groove on bokken have only one purpose, to help you with "hasuji", audio feedback, or sound is signal to you that your Hasuji is good or bad, on my bokkens Hi or bohi (groove) look like on real sword, because cross section on bokken is different than on shinken, my bokken make sound when Hasuji is not good, her is pic.

here you could find more info about Hasuji
