Re: Poll: How often do you engage in very slow practice in aikido?
Not enough!!!!
I can't believe that only 12 people have responded to this poll so far.
To perform a slow technique in my opinion is a very good demonstration of mastery. It is very hard to "fudge" a technique as compared to speeding through it and blurring ones mistakes.
I have heard all the arguments for "fast" or "normal" speed, and specificity of training, but in the initial development of a skill the correct motor pathways need to be developed/programmed first.
As the saying goes "Practice does not make perfect, but perfect practice does."
There is a time and place for speed. We don't start learning to drive at 100kph. ( +- 60 mph).
Come on people ...............bite!

I didn't respond to the poll cuz I don't like "polls," but we concentrated on doing waza slowly just last night. It definitely has a place in my dojo.

Re: Poll: How often do you engage in very slow practice in aikido?
We do it fairly frequently to build movement patterns and muscle memory. Too fast loses quality and principles. Learning to do it correctly and consistently helps when you need to do it fast. Most things break down with speed-especially control.
