If it was his family and property threatened what do think O'Sensei would have done?

Whatever the situation called for? Kind of depends on the specific what-if scenario doesn't it? I mean, if people were trying to steal from him or his family (or otherwise harm them), I guess he would try to stop them under most circumstances.

O'Sensei lived in a different era as I do in the latter days of my life.
O'Sensei and others would have fought for their home and family as we all did in the second world war. In the PC UK today if you protect yourself or your property you will go to prison, and that would apply to O'Sensei.

Someone quipped that "there's nothing to loot in Coventry except litter; we'll be fine". It made me chuckle, but this is actually quite a lovely city with a fascinating history. And a litter problem.

I think in his day a riot would be called an uprising. He went on one once didn't he? He got arrested and nearly put to death.

Re: Riots in Great Britain, What Would O'Sensei Have Done

Apparently the riots were orchestrated. The younger members of the various gangs would be sent out to riot and distract the police while the older ones did the looting.

UK gangs thrive in August riots;

Well,

I don't know about O sensei, but this gentleman lost his son in a hit and run during the riots, and this is what he has to say:

His speech has been credited with helping to calm things in the local community.

Yes, that man has been amazing. They held a peace march there yesterday.

The 'killers' have been found and arrested.

The courts have been open all weekend, 2,500 arrested so far. 1,200 sentenced.

One guy yesterday got arrested after the laptop he stole had a security cam gadget and so sent a picture of him and his whereabouts to police.

David. Don't be so easily led. As usual criminal gangs did take advantage of the situation as happens in all mass disturbances.

I have not heard that expression for a very long time. If a politician said it and meant it, then as you say they could run with that.
How can you trust a Prime Minister that cuts the winter allowance for the elderly and during the same week gives £650m to schools in Pakistan.

Re: Riots in Great Britain, What Would O'Sensei Have Done

The problem with politics is that everyone has good intentions. Right up until they get into power and realise that the last guy was a poor leader because we work within a framework of capitalism and external political pressures, which entail limited funds and that you have to screw over one guy to help the other. No leader can ever do it 'right', because our political system of choice is always going to favour one sub-set of society and penalise another.

There are very simple solutions, of course, but no one's prepared to suggest them because we don't want to look too much like those commie buggers in the East or those dictators in the Middle East.

Although, to be fair, David Cameron was very truthful in his election campaigns; he told everyone of his plans that basically said, "I'm going to f*** you all over to 'fix' things" and people seemed to cheer him. But now they're crying wolf. That was one thing that I never quite understood.

Perhaps the elderly should riot while they are warm and alive.

Dailymail:
Nine elderly people died every hour from cold-related illnesses last winter against a background of soaring energy bills.
Official figures show the number of deaths linked to cold over the four-month period reached 25,400 in England and Wales, plus 2,760 in Scotland.

[quote=David Maidment;290358]The problem with politics is that everyone has good intentions.

David

I write a short article each week in my local paper on various subjects..I was asked what I thought of our local conservative MP Dr Phillip Lee who leading a campaign to stop door to door salespeople misleading the public ( such as gas ).

I wrote that Dr Lee himself was a prime culprit of his own campaign.
When his represntatives knocked on my door during the election build up they never said they would take away part of my winter allowance and give all to the third world ( and more ) I was not surprised that the paper did not print the truth.
Back to O'Sensei, I suspect that at his age he may be one of those that would freeze to death.

He might do what he did earlier... retreat to the countryside out of harm's way. It's good strategy for survival and he was able to continue to affect his students during and after the troubles.
