Passed my Exam! (Whoot!)
Sorry if I sound a bit excited...but I am!
Just passed my 5th kyu exam!
(We have 6kyus)
I know it doesnt mean much in terms of helping you to understand what I know, etc. as there are various ranking systems, as well as requirements within, which are represented here on this board - none-the-less, wanted to share my excitement.
For me this is a good milestone, for those of you who have read my other threads you know I have been practicing in a country where I dont really know the language. - albeit over the past year its rubbing off on me more. - so this probably means a bit more to me because of the extra effort that was put into getting here over the past year.
From here its time to move forward.
- oh, not to mention that my knee got injured the first night of the seminar on Thursday. I did a lot of therapy on it (light, massage, etc) and was able to participate in most of the seminar still, as well as test. (It was an awkward 'pinch' that was sharp...couldnt even stand at first.)
Anyway...babbled on enough about this.
Peace to all, and thanks for reading this post.

Thanks Kevin for the congrats!
Oh, they had the local video guy/gal there and I was interviewed afterwards. (Luckily in English...answers were translated.)
Kind of awkward...guess I will see how it comes out when I get a copy of the dvd.
Now time for me to crash...been a long (seminar) week.
Peace

Re: Passed my Exam! (Whoot!)
I remember your earlier posts regarding language and culture where you are, and I remember wondering if you had what it took to get through...
I'm glad to see that you do.
Congrats!

Yeah, it was pretty significant (for me) to get through the 6th and 5th kyu here...if you read some of my older post you will see why.
The language 'barrier' was one key issue (getting better at understanding Hungarian...but still rough with speaking it.)
Also, my 'pride' was something that I had an opportunity to be aware of and watch throughout this past year. (Amazing how much is there that you didn't realize.)
Thanks for the congrats though - I was indeed pretty stoked to reach this milestone I had for myself...
Peace

Hello Zoltan,
Thanks for the congrats.
Your dojo in London is connected to Veszprem?
We had a 4th Dan Sensei visit us last year from there. (Sensei Janos...forgot the last name right off hand.)
As for 4th kyu, earliest I can test would be Dec.
(Testing either in Szeged or Makko I believe - a good distance from where Im at.)
Peace

Hi dAlen,
our dojo is connected to the Aikido Foundation in Hungary which is connected to Veszprem where the summer camps of the Foundation are held but, unfortunately, it is not connected (as far as I know) to the sensei who visited your dojo. (Google shows his name is Janos Veisz but their website says he's 3rd dan so I'm not 100% sure).
Sometimes things in aikido are complicated .
Best,
Zolley

Your totally right - I suppose he is still 3rd dan.
(Got him confused with another 'Janos' in the organization who actually is 4th dan, but not who I was thinking of.)
Not sure your familiar with this organization - (I still dont fully understand the political structure of Aikido in Hungary...though I know its diverse) - but it appears we are in the Hungarian Aikido Culture Association with Sensei Varszegi Rudolf (5th dan) as our Technical Director.
Honestly I have not seen many of the higher ups in our organization...mostly Sensei Imre Marton (4th dan) and his crew.
For the most part it seems Sensei Imre carries the east side of Hungary for the organization. We have people from Szeged all the way north above Miskolc coming to seminars to test. (Forgive any spelling errors.)
It seems our shihan is Sensei Tamura.
Anyway - good to chat with someone from Hungary...even if your in the U.K. now.
Peace
dAlen

Re: Passed my Exam! (Whoot!)
Congratulations! 5th kyu is a true beginning, and if you rush into 4th kyu, you can stumble right away. I did, and so did one of my students years later! An interesting lesson that I review, over and over.
In gassho,
Mark
