How soon do you get test results?
Hey Jun! This might make a good polling question. (or is it one? )
Anyways, when you take a black belt exam (any degree) how soon do you hear back on whether you passed or failed?
Just curious.

Sensei usually lets people know in a week or so and then it takes a couple of months for the certificates to come from our Hombu.

In our organization you take your test, Shodan, Kyu, whatever, then there is a meeting with all the Yudansha, then they come back and tell you if you passed or not. For Shodan, you know that day if you passed or not, but takes several months for the certificate to show up.
Is it bad luck to order you black belt and hakama before you pass your Shodan test? It's something we kid about in our club.

In our organization the feeback is immediate. The yudansha will critique the exam, while everything is fresh in everybody's mind. The last person to critique the Dan tests is the director of the organization who lets the person know whether he has passed or failed - immediately.
The certificate comes within a couple of weeks, but at least the tester knows the outcome and the areas of improvement that need to be made(whether they pass or fail).

I saw a 3rd Dan test in September, I don't know how quickly he learned if he past (Kato Sensei was actually there though). I was there when he got his certificate just a couple weeks ago though. Quite a few months between test and certificate

With us you find out immediately. The certificates though take a lonnnngggg time to come (my shodan certificate took almost a year to arrive). With the kyu ranks it is also immediate, and there is feedback about the test and what needs to be worked on for the next test.

[Sarcasm]Only after the parade permit has been approved by the Mayor's office.[/Sarcasm]
The ceremony is when your teacher gives you the Black Belt (even if no one else shows up for class).

No celebration, just more training.

Time to results, same day as grading. Can someone give me a good reason for the week-month delay in telling someone how they've done?

We let everyone who tests know the result on the same day. Once everyone has finished their grading all of the Yudansha go into another room and we all have a say and vote on who's passed or failed this time.
Depending on the grade depends on the percentage you need to pass. People grading for Shodan can only be voted on by those of a higher grade. We only test up to, and including Nidan in our Association - anything higher is awarded as and when it's felt you have made the relevant improvements in your Aikido. So no more tests for me

Re: How soon do you get test results?
At Hombu we officially get the result on the Tuesday after the tests which are held on the first Sunday and Monday of most months.
However the examiners comment on the tests after the tests are completed so you can usually tell if you have passed or not then.
For kyu exams at least you can receive your certificates on the Tuesday the results are made official. I`m not sure about the dan level certificates though.

Re: How soon do you get test results?
Whether it is shodan, nidan, or above, the test candidates will know shortly after the test has been completed. Certificates take a few months to arrive.
