I have just received word that Sioux Hall (6th dan, Harvard Aikikai) has passed away from stomach cancer. She had just received her shihan title by the USAF in aikido earlier this year. My condolences go out to her family, friends, students, and loved ones.
From the Harvard Aikikai website: "Sioux Hall (rokudan, shidoin, Chief Instructor), a student of the late Mitsunari Kanai-shihan for 28 years, is the Chief Instructor at Harvard Aikikai. Since 2003, she has been regular instructor at Harvard. In addition, Hall-sensei has served as Chief Instructor at Wheaton College and Milton Academy, as Visiting Instructor at Martha's Vineyard Aikido Club, as well as teaching classes at Boston University's School of Theater Arts, the Charles River Creative Arts Camp, and with the MIT Aikido Club. In 1984, Hall-sensei founded and directed the Childrens Program and taught there for 20 years, under the guidance of Kanai-shihan. She has taught seminars in Ottawa, Albany, New York Aikikai, and at several East Coast Aikido camps. In keeping with the tradition of the Harvard Aikikai, Hall-sensei is affiliated with the United States Aikido Federation. Hall-sensei brings a strong commitment to setting a high standard of Aikido in the artistic and martial tradition of her own Sensei, to creating a welcoming atmosphere of mutual respect, and encouraging everyone to discover their full potential."

Re: Sioux Hall (6th dan, Harvard Aikikai) Passes Away
so sorry to hear of her passing. I have followed her career through my former student Marianne who visited New England Aikikai and then the New Jersey USAF summer camps. I was visiting Kanai Sensei's dojo from time to time visiting my friends Beverly and Ginny in 79 and 80 and Sioux was relatively new but at the front of the mat with the energetic ones and my hat was off to her so to speak. She had long reddish hair and rode a bicycle to practice as I remember. Such a spirited person it made me happy to think of her practice and teaching through the years. My sympathy to all who miss her too.
