Did anyone see him do these in person? I'm wondering if the close range is an artifact of fitting the movement to the video frame, or if he always did them so close.

The distance in which we did tachi dori was the distance between our front hand stretched to the tip of the sword. Pat Hendricks Sensei did it this way and Saito Sensei would show the same maai at his seminars.
These are great. This is the first time I'm seeing a few of these, great stuff! I think it is very important for Aikido students to understand this material and our link to the past. If you can't understand where Aikido came from, how can you understand what it is becoming? Great video, thanks!
