What Mary may want to say is that not all styles of Aikido.. in fact only q few.. test for ki ability. It is mainly done in ki aikido as far as I know.

In most other styles it is assessed either indirectly or not really at all as part of the general evaluation of the person grading..

Any style where you test your ability to shoot balls or rays of ki energy or test your ability to lift anything with your mind is probably not affiliated closely to hombu Dojo

Re: The power of ki

Ki testing starts at our dojo right when technique testing begins.

And none of that testing involves action at a distance.

depends on your definition of ki. my definition usually involved beans and cabbage. in such case, testing should be done at a distance, preferably in a different time zone.

While I don't share your definition, within the context of your definition I wholeheartedly agree with your recommendation.
