YouTube: Shoji Nishio (and Yashuhiko Takemori, around 1986)

Here's a video of Shoji Nishio demonstrating/teaching around 1986. Also appearing in the video is Yasuhiko Takemori of Aikido Zushi Shoufuukai.

What are your thoughts on this video?

It is a nice collection of footage of Nishio sensei, but I think it is difficult to understand what his aikido was about from this video if you have not already trained in this particular way. Learning from a video is always difficult but maybe even more in this situation.

However at 4.24 and 5.15 (approx) I think you get a quick glimpse of the relaxed speed and precision that was so amazing about Nishio sensei.

I'll immediately admit a completely shallow understanding of Nishio Sensei's marvelous technique (though many thanks for posting this one!), and as such this will simply reflect where my head's at at the moment, but it reminded me somehow of this clip of Chiba Sensei:

Something about the wonderful intent of the attack, making the needed response not just "in the moment", but "in the instant", or perhaps more accurately, "before the instant", "leading up to the instant".
