Narita Shinjuro
Is there any connection in terms of lineage between what this man is doing and Aikido? Also, has anyone here felt his technique? If so, could you describe how it felt to you?

Re: Narita Shinjuro
Korindo Aikido is a branch of Aikido that doesn't come from Morihei Ueshiba, but rather from his contemporary Minoru Hirai.

Re: Narita Shinjuro
Exactly where do Aikido and Korindo Aikido branch off? Apparently Minoru Hirai was the "General Affairs Director" of the Kobukan as well as its representative at the Butokukai. Since he seems to have been quite involved in Kobukan matters, I always assumed that he was practicing with Ueshiba during this time. On the other hand, I seem to recall some current Korindo practitioners stating that Korindo and mainstream Aikido only share the name, not the techniques.

Re: Narita Shinjuro
Thanks, Marc, for the clarification. I've seen clips of Minoru Harai and can see the similarity between his maneuvers and Shinjuro's. Do you know, Marc, if Minoru had any training with Sokaku Takeda? Or did he obtain his skills from a completely different source?
I'm not convinced by what I've seen of Korindo Aikido that it doesn't suffer from the problems of uke's over-accommodation of nage that most Ueshiba-derived Aikido does. Has anyone had an opportunity to train with Narita Shinjuro or heard anything anecdotally about the efficacy of Korindo Aikido?

Re: Narita Shinjuro
As to your first question, I don't think so, from what I've read.
As to your second one, over-accommodating uke's, that's a problem everywhere, I guess.
And no, I've never trained Korindo but I've heard from someone who did that it was bloody hard.
John C Goss is an American exponent of Korindo, but he switched to Daito-Ryu under Kondo, I believe. (gossaiki.com)
If you want more information, also have a look at: wikipedia.org/wiki/Minoru_Hirai which contains some useful links.
Also, there exists a video of Narita Shinjuro published by BAB (ISBN 978-4-86220-295-6)
There also exists a German translation of lectures by Minoru Hirai. The author is again Narita Shinjuro. (ISBN-13: 9783833490866) The full German title is: Korindo Aikido: Das Budo-System des Hirai Minoru, nach den Aufzeichnungen seines Meister-Schülers Narita Shinjuro, 9. dan und shihan - übersetzt und bearbeitet von Gerhard Hackner.

Re: Narita Shinjuro
I fell upon this - Is this by any chance the same person and a misspelling? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98yRuBkUBGQ (at 1.50)
Or just somebody with a name that is close to this person?

Narita Shinjuro and Rinjiro Shirata are two different people.
