Aikido dojo in Portland, Oregon
Hello everyone,
I'm Danny. I live in Portland, OR. I have been interested in Aikido for a while. So I want to find a good dojo around Portland area to practice. It's just I'm not sure which one to choose. There are multiple aikikai dojos in here and there is also the Ki Society.
Have anyone had experience training w/ the Oregon Ki Society? Which dojo? Can you tell me about it. And is there any great aikido sensei in any aikikai or ki society dojos here?
Thanks.

Hi,
It isn't Portland metro area, but I'd strongly recommend the Ki Society in Corvallis,

Thanks for the info, but corvallis is way too far for me. Well, what about the one in Tigard? Or would you recommend me any aikikai dojos?

Re: Aikido dojo in Portland, Oregon
I could have swore I responded to you several days ago and mentioned that there are some great aikikai dojo up there and told you about the ki dojo as well.... but obviously my post isn't here...
Anyway, I can't attest to the ki dojo, but I can say that most of the aikikai dojo's up there aren't bad at all. Our dojo goes to Multnomah and Portland Aikikai more frequently.

I just worked with Aki for the first time this weekend at a seminar in Eugene and he is a very kind guy. Really patient and willing to slow things down and break it down so you can figure it out.

Haven't personally trained with any of these, but I hear Yoko is amazing (she only comes back to the US a few times a year), but I hear the other instructors are nice as well.
Best of luck. You have a decent choice of dojo's to pick from.

Re: Aikido dojo in Portland, Oregon
Hi Danny,
You can check our website. Just Google Oregon Ki Society and you'll have a lot of info. A typical day of training is 1 hour Ki class followed by another hour of Ki Aikido. I have been training there for six years and and been enjoying and discovering a lot. Intro class is always free. The Tigard dojo is a regional training center so folks as far as UK come to train and test.

Re: Aikido dojo in Portland, Oregon
This isn't a Ki society dojo, it's an ASU dojo and they're great people.

My wife and I just went up there for a seminar with our instructor, John Messores Sensei, 6th Dan ASU (Saotome Sensei's organisation). The dojo is in Beaverton, which if my memory serves from our weekend trip might be close to Tigard.
They have a couple of Yondans as well as a number of other yudansha (blackbelts) and a wide variety of body types to experiment with. We had a great time and I'd highly recommend you check them out.
