Re: Poll: What color is your aikido?

What a great question for Sunday morning?

I took a look at the results(cheated before I answered) and saw that at this early stage there are a lot of "white aikidoka" out there. Why" white". Modesty? Beginners? Still Learning? Have Progressed through all the colors and are now back at white?

Thinking about it, other martial arts start at white then progress through yellow, orange etc and then end up at black, from where they try to wear out the black so it is back to white.

Personally I have worked up to black, but now feel that I'm started over again. Not quite at white as I am not as innocent as when I began, but at a point now where I can really focus on learning the techniques.

Now I can work my way through all those colors again, up to black, and then do it all again.

Cheers.

P.S. forgot to add I chose yellow !!!

Re: Poll: What color is your aikido?

Paul Linden Sensei has an exercise involving clours in his book "Feeling Aikido" which I've just read, and been astounded by. To me its up there with perhaps two other books on aikido that are gebnuinely worth reading. The man's a genius - highly recomened.

Huh??? Is this question like, "If you were a flower, what flower would you be...???"

OK, here's my answer (to both questions):

a dandelion.

Re: Poll: What color is your aikido?

I believe Wendy Palmer Sensei asks students to try on "qualities". If I had more X what would it look like. This morning I tried on fire, earth, air and water while doing an ikkyo (while not trying to change the technique technically), uke and I found the four techniques radically different. Try it.

I believe the Linden Sensei exercise is similar using colors.

Hello Mark,

Hello Mark,

The spirit an alsoi they were differne ttechniqally I'm sure in many subtle ways. The notion was of not trying to change them techniqally, by moving my left foot two inches to the left or whatever. The uke experienced them as utterly different and took differnet ukemi. Air for example made him laugh and take a bouncy happy ukemi, but he reported it as 'unconvincing" martially. Fire he backed right away from and said it was kinda scary. I've done the same thing with emotions, anger (creates forward and outward movement), fear (backwards and in) joy (up and out) and sadness (down and in).

Just interesting games to experiment with, that show show intertwined the mental, emotional and pysical aspects are. Can sound a bit aii-fruity I know (I;n froma British Chiba tradition) but I've found them to be revealing and practical.

Brown...oheem, truly said black but I am not an arrogant guy

Therefore, I have chosen Brown...Well, perfect aikido: so smooth, circular, powerful...my aikido can not be described with colors, it is the total of every color, white (harmony, love, perfection) and on the other hand black (warrior, passion, power, energy)...and

Re: Poll: What color is your aikido?

I chose the color of green, not to relate aikido in any way to belt color, but to relate it to nature, and while nature does have many and every color, green does seem most dominate in jungles, forests, and trees. In gassho

Re: Poll: What color is your aikido?

Blue. I think it's best explained through the doppler shift of the frequency/wavelength of light observed, and mainly just the outer extremities. This would explain why everyone else looks red and sluggish

No, I actually suppose blue reminds me of something continuous, and movement. Otherwise, colors on the blue side of the spectrum are more energetic, but they tend to get hung up a bit more easily.

An enjoyable if outright silly poll!

michael.

Re: Poll: What color is your aikido?

I chose green because my aikido has been really cheerfull as of late. Even with multiple uke on my case, I'm smiling and in a jocular mood. My favorite color's orange, but I think my aikido's green.

I once saw a hakama made from some old fabric from the 70s' - it was a white background with huge sunflowers and green leaves on it. Truly dizzifying when she took ukemi.

After closing my eyes and thinking about it for awhile, my aikido seems transparent like water. I have been training for 14 years.

I also chose blue, but couldn't really think of a reasonable explaination; thanks Michael for providing me with one....Now can I see the answers you provided to the other questions on the test....

Blue - It is my favorite color, even though I wear a black hakama!

I find a correlation between the fact that white got the most votes and the story I heard that O'Sensei wore a white belt his whole life.

Re: Poll: What color is your aikido?

I looked for "invisible" or "colorless" and chose white as the closest match but in thinking about it I answered next week's poll which probably will be "What color do you desire your Aikido to be?" as at the moment I'm still a mixed violet/grey.
