Helio Gracie and O Sensei

Interesting quote from Helio Gracie, sounds like he has some philisophy in common with O Sensei and Aikido?

Re: Helio Gracie and O Sensei

Sounds nice and fluffy, but I think both he and O-Sensei had oodles of physical power in their prime.

That's when you learn to win fights by not getting drunk in strip clubs!

There's no such thing as 'domination' in Aikido...

Helio is known for his small stature (~130lbs) which forced him to develop his jiu jitsu in ways that allowed him to survive against much larger opponents. The use of leverage, not physical power, was his genius.

Re: Helio Gracie and O Sensei

Or is it, "walk softly and carry a big stick"?

To Rupert's point, I think we cannot extend this philosophy beyond the ability to back it up. We sometimes forget these inspirational comments were made by people who could dominate by personality. Assuming this gem is even within our ability, living up to it is easier said than done.
