Swords and bugs?
Okay, for those who know me I work professionally polishing and mounting swords. I love working in the evening/night hours -- that's just how I'm wired. I also love keeping the workshop open to a full breeze. Ahhh, lovely. Except for occasional mosquitos. I've been doing battle for years.
A few nights ago I tried to wave one away using the sword I was working on. Finally! Ha! Beat that Musashi!
And yes, there was a bit of bug part on the other side of the blade.

Re: Swords and bugs?
Nice job!
That reminds me of a joke: Three samurai are sitting outside, eating, drinking and boasting. The first samurai sees a fly and says, "I can draw and strike so quickly I can kill a fly in flight." He companions don't believe him, so he draws and cuts through the air. Two halves of a fly land on the table.
The second samurai says, "That's nothing! I can kill three flies with one strike." He draws and cuts so quickly that the other samurai could hardly see the sword as it moved. Six halves of flies fell to the table.
The third samurai simply says, "watch this!" He draws and cuts more smoothly and more quickly than either of his companions had ever seen -- but the fly he aimed at was still buzzing happily around.
The other two samurai start laughing at him. "You missed," said the first one. "No I didn't," said the third, "that fly will never be able to have children now."

Re: Swords and bugs?
How was the fly attacking; with a Shomenuchi or Yokomenuchi or some other devious secret fly technique?

Re: Swords and bugs?
He was using the art of mosquitodo obviously. And now we don't have to have the forum questions of "Does mosquitodo work in a fight?" or, "How will mosquitodo do against kenjujusu?" Keith has answered the question for all time.

New owner already has the blade. And a high res copy of the photo. I was tempted to brush the kanji "kagiri" on the shirasaya, however...
Yeah, it was a nice blade too. Howard Clark Bainite katana. Scary sharp too -- it (the sword) bit me a few times working on it. Nasty disposition.

Yes, I can confidently say "mosquito-do" clearly sucks (sorry) and that togi-do reigns supreme. Eventually. After a decade or so...
