Re: Poll: Which of the following do you think your dojo most emphasizes?
I really cannot say there is an emphasis on any aspect. I have been pondering this since the poll came out. Maybe that reflects a balance. I really do not know. But no aspect is taught more than another.

Re: Poll: Which of the following do you think your dojo most emphasizes?
My vote on aesthetic reflects a place to begin: with space and beauty. That makes the dojo a place of refuge. You need room to work on yourself; the dojo is not a gym. The space and the beauty serve as reminders. It also helps to have a church and a funeral home across the street like I do, although a cemetary would have a better effect. In gassho

Re: Poll: Which of the following do you think your dojo most emphasizes?
Judging your dojo on its own, it is hard to say, which aspect your dojo emphasizes most, because that would mean, the dojo is neglecting somehow the other aspects.
If you compare it to - most - other dojo, you can say " this is the aspect, my sensei (I/we) think is underemphasized in other dojo, so we put more weight in this. I cannot vote, as I do not know "most other dojo".

Re: Poll: Which of the following do you think your dojo most emphasizes?
You know, I voted martial, and we do emphasises the martial nature of Aikido that Yoshinkan keeps alive, but we do this through training in Kamae, through Kihon Dosa, then Kihon Waza, so I could have said Mechanics or posture and body movement.
The option wasn't there, but the answer is really....
Kamae and Kihon!

I said spirituality because, well, it's a Shinto shrine. However, I'd say martial is a close second...still...it's hard to quantify.
Take care,
Matt

Re: Poll: Which of the following do you think your dojo most emphasizes?
Well, my sensei is senior student to Bob Nadeau, and Nadeau Sensei says :
"But the most important goal of my teaching is "human consciousness development"; going beyond the techniques, exploring, or using the techniques, to arrive at a change in consciousness"
I think my sensei would concur with that statement.

Re: Poll: Which of the following do you think your dojo most emphasizes?
I voted mechanical, but the senior instructor would probably answer martial - and he is probably more right than I am. However, many in this locale seem to feel teaching on the ineffable is well, real tough to put into words
Technique and principle are very well taught - spirituality is up to the student.
