Don Angier is the current head of Yanagi-ryu. This was a family art of Japan's Yoshida family, and was passed on to Angier by Kenji Yoshida, who came to the United States prior to WWII. Yoshida was caught in the WWII internment, and afterwards ended up in New York, where he took Angier as his student.
Although the Yanagi ryu includes aikijujutsu, kenjutsu, naginatajutsu, tantojutsu, jojutsu, hojojutsu, tessanjutsu, and juttejutsu, this seminar will focus on unarmed techniques, and is open to people of all styles and ability levels.
Stanley Pranin, editor-in-chief Aikido Journal, says, "I would highly recommend that anyone who has a chance to see Don Angier Sensei do so. He is one of the finest martial artists that I have ever met. Aikido Journal #119 has a featured interview with this exceptional teacher." To read this article, see "So Sorry!
