Resetting "posts read"

Hi

There seems to be some sort of bug in my cookies or something. I fairly frequently observe the following:

- login and see various threads highlighted with unread posts

- click on "view first unread post in thread" and read the rest of the thread

- click on "breadcrumbs" to go back to forum view (e.g. AikiWeb Aikido Forums > Announcements & Feedback)

- suddenly find that all threads in the forum are now marked as "read"

This behaviour does not occur all the time. It is however annoying as it means I lose track of what I have read or haven't.

Is it just me noticing this, or is there some setting I should be aware of?

Regards
Robert

Re: Resetting "posts read"

Hi Robert,

Odd. I don't know if I've ever encountered the same kind of behavior myself. Anyone else?

What I usually do is click on "New Posts" in the top bar to get a list of the new posts. I then middle click (using a three-button mouse in Firefox) on each of the "View First Unread Post" icons to open up new tabs for each of the threads.

If you're lingering upon a single thread for, I believe, 15 minutes, your cookie will time out and all threads will become marked as "read." If it looks like this behavior of the forums is happening before 15 minutes, you may want to try deleting all of your cookies in your browser to see if that helps.

Best,

Re: Resetting "posts read"

The 15 minute timeout is probably what is doing it.

How can I disable that?

Robert

Hi Robert,

That is a system-wide setting, so you won't be able to disable it.

Best,

Have you tried talcum powder?

I feared as much!

What's the reason behind it - it is some sort of performance thing to reduce load on tracking of read items?

Any chance of increase from 15 mins to 30 or 60?

Re: Resetting "posts read"

Hi Robert,

I have increased the time to 30 minutes.

If anyone runs across any anomalies due to this change, please let me know!
