Aikido & Tango

Hi -i'm new to Aikido (one month in...) and new to this list.I haven't even started to read all of the threads on this board but i found a reference to something i've been thinking about so here i am.
In the thread on Aikido & intimacy there is a mention of a similarity between Aikido and Tango.I've been dancing Argentine Tango for 5 years and i strongly agree. To dance Tango, especially as the "follower"(uke) you Must be relaxed, you Must be present and you Must be able to read the smallest physical nuances of your partner's movement.
And as nage as well, there is no force, only persuasion. The lighter the lead the more profound the response...
So just yesterday i was intending to sign on here to ask, Hey. are there any other cross-practitioners on this board? Any Tanguero Aikidokas? If you're out there, and maybe in the SF Bay area, wanna talk about cross training sometime?it could be the start of a whole new art form.
BTW, historical point- Tango was originally a martial art...

This thread has been moved from the Anonymous forum to the General forum.

Please note that the Anonymous forum is intended for "delicate" subject matters for which people have a need or want to keep their identities from being revealed. I encourage people to keep this in mind before starting a thread in the Anonymous forum.

Thanks,

Good post, Jo. When I took ballroom dancing for about 6 months, I noticed the same things in the waltz, etc. My aikido training helped me tremendously, since I had to "lead" my partner into various moves to "help her get where she needed to go".

Very interesting.
