Re: Aiki Principles Multi Instructor 3-Day Seminar

Aw, Janet, you're there too!? Dangit, I'm going to be kicking myself for years over not getting up there. Debbie and Glynis, who I just met at the Aiki Retreat got together to go, but I couldn't see my way clear to get there. Take good notes! ;-)

Re: Aiki Principles Multi Instructor 3-Day Seminar

Hey all,

A weekend filled with great instruction (lots of stuff to take home and work on!) good humour (as you can see by Janet's posts).

Briefly:

Kimberly Richardson Sensei - showed us to reach inside and be behind long before physical contact! Beautiful movement, beautiful dojo!

Kaizen Taki - Systema - helped us understand the freedom to move is always there if you understand your fear....Systema training is a deep, deep well to draw from.

Howard Popkin - my stomach hurts from laughing! So welcoming & full of humour. Very direct, gentle and unstoppable technique. Thanks too, to Joe Brogna for coming and reinforcing everything Howard did.

Toby Threadgill - I'm not overstating when I say this guy is a living master. Truly incredible and he showed us how to be incredible too.

George Ledyard Sensei- what a man! He put this all together and I can't thank him enough. Kudos to you George, this seminar was an incredible experience and all who attended have you to thank for it. Thanks for working so hard and being such a visionary leader!

I've been to a few seminars in my aikido career and I can say that this one is absolutely the most outstanding training experience I have enjoyed.

There's so much more but I'm going to stop now:-) Make the next one everyone... you really don't know what you missed.

Cheers,

Russ

Re: Aiki Principles Multi Instructor 3-Day Seminar

I wanted to publicly thank each of the amazing teachers who participated in this event. Everyone I talked to was blown away by the weekend. I have enough material to work on for a year or two...

To have such incredible teachers from these other arts share what they know so generously with the Aikido community was a huge gift. It was fantastic for Kimberly Richardson Sensei and myself to be able put our takes on Aikido out there alongside these folks and see how the attendees responded to the whole mix.

I can honestly say that this was an event that folks walked away from better than when they arrived.

The response was so positive from both the attendees and the teachers involved that there will be another one in 2013. If you missed this one you will have another chance then.

I particularly wanted to thank Kimberly Richardson Sensei for allowing us to use Two Cranes Aikido for the event. It's an amazing dojo and if ever get to Seattle you should visit. It's one of the nicest dojos I have seen anywhere.

- George

I approached Toby with this preface: "I've been asked to ask you a question... but I'm not sure if it is appropriate for this open training session or for dinner tonight..."
When I mentioned the topic he laughed his head off and suggested deferring it to the dinner table :-) ...
So I hope you heard the story...

he also said very nice things about you...
Yeah, Toby's a good guy, but his taste in people is obviously skewed...

The story was indeed told at dinner. Phi, trust me, better heard than read, but if somehow you and I meet before you and Toby meet, I'll be happy to give you my best rendition (which was apparently not bad, since it had my dear, long suffering aikido widower laughing pretty good over dinner last night....)
