Looking for good videos that look like BS

After reading George Ledyard's response to the "Golden Center Sword" post, I tried looking for good YouTube videos of the awesome but seemingly-fake abilities/techniques of Don Angier or others. I was unable to find anything that looked fake, but was really very high-level skills. I have witnessed and experienced such awesome seemingly-fake skills by Toby Threadgill: "Good jujutsu looks like BS." It was very real, but I am unable to describe how something can look complicit and not be.

I would very much appreciate a good link or two to a YouTube video that is definitely real, but looks fake to the amateur (probably only the very experienced people here know who and what to look for).

Thank you.

Watching Don Angier, is like reading good poetry. You sort of get why it is called a martial art.

Almost every skill looks fake if you don't have a clue how it is done. Some even make a profession of it - think magician.

Roppokai's Okamoto fits this bill: http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...oto+daito&aq=f

I've trained several times with Okamoto student Howard Popkin. I'm a believer. But it sure looks like hooey. Watch and laugh...and take the UKEMI.

That is exactly what I'm hoping to see in a video.

Toby Threadgill once said "Good jujutsu looks like BS. Really good jujutsu even feels like BS."

The non-BS-ness of techniques captured in a YouTube video can only be based on reputation or verified by those here with the experience to know what is and is not BS.

Thank you.

Just looking at clips and photos, it's easy to dismiss Okamoto Sensei, but the more I learn, the harder it is to dismiss him.

Re: Looking for good videos that look like BS

Can we move this back to the "General Aikido" thread?

I'm primarily interested in good aikido that looks like BS and isn't.
I mentioned Toby Threadgill's jujutsu only because that's what I've directly experienced.

That said, Okamoto Seigo at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKJm3Sn4K-I
looks believable, while
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4qXVdGKn9k
looks cooperative because of how uke waits with his arm sticking out at 6 seconds, other stuff could very well be as awesome as it looks; I can't tell.

Is there any awesome aikido out there?

Thank you.

Re: Looking for good videos that look like BS

that is right it is cooperative, it depends in what you mean regarding awesome aikido, aiki is what makes aikido awesome, Dan Harden has the most powerful aiki out there but he does not practice aikido.

Hi Derek, I think I know what you mean-- here are some of my past favorites. For the record I don't think they look totally fake (though there are varying degrees of collusion plaguing these ukes, no surprise there). But I think they have what you describe.

Ikeda sensei:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaLBx...eature=related

Sunadomari sensei:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Shte_t-D1k

Endo Sensei:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeYqboOK7Pk

Yamaguchi Sensei:
http://www.myspace.com/video/vid/10734940

And how could we forget Shioda sensei.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmOGWitS72I
(give that one a few moments to get to the "fake looking" stuff)

Happy new year!

Nice compilation of Aikido. Interesting to note that Shioda does a lot of the Tohei hop in his video.

I recognized some good fake-looking stuff from Ikeda sensei.
Sunadomari sensei's no-touch throws (with and without weapons) looked pretty fake.
The video of Endo sensei was too far to see anything that looked fake. It all looked like standard (albeit very good) aikido from that distance.
I the video of Yamaguchi sensei, only the hold-down at 3 minutes looked fake (I know it's not because it worked on me before).
Maybe I've seen too many Shioda sensei videos, but I didn't see anything that looked really fake.

Certainly there must be more fake-looking stuff out there. I'm having a hard time finding it on YouTube too. Maybe I need to look under the internal training stuff.
