Talking Hello all!

Well, title says it all! Hello all!
I'm rather new to aikido, but I do like it. Perhaps 'like' isn't really the word to use. I'm more inspired by the philosophy behind aikido than anything else.
I just passed my 6th Kyu grading however, I do have a little trouble with rolling.
My forward rolls seem to be very "hard", as in I impact the mat rather hard, with a loud sound and all. My seniors have been trying to help me but I haven't been improving much. I've been trying to roll as lightly as possible but I still impact the mat quite hard. Any tips?

Re: Hello all!

Hello and welcome

This is awesome imo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OaicleoK4M

There's a good recent thread about ukemi here with lots of advice and more videos etc.

If you're hitting the mat hard remember to get as low as you can before you go and also that the feeling is more horizontal than vertical so give yourself a good push off rather than collapsing. Also try to relax, jiggle around a bit first to get that loose feeling, and try to imagine yourself as a big springy ball.

Re: Hello all!

Hi Timothy,

Welcome to AikiWeb. You might get more responses to your inquiries if you start a separate thread outside of the Introductions forum.

Re: Hello all!

Haha, thanks! But I don't want to clutter up the other forums unnecessarily unless I really have something burning to discuss.
