What's In A Name?
I have found over the past four years of studying aikido that it is much easier to wrap my mind around a technique when it has a distinctive name. Aside from the more common techniques (ikkyo, nikyo, irimi, shiho-nage, etc.) I spend a lot of time working with techniques that have no particular name. Usually they are referred to as 'another kokyu' or another way of doing koshi or sometimes as an alternative version of such and such. From time to time I unexpectedly come across a name for one of those nameless techniques and it really helps cement the technique in my mind.
So my question is, does anyone know of a truly definitive list of technique names, specifically the obscure ones that hardly anyone ever seems to mention or remember? I know different schools have different names even for the most basic techniques. That's okay. I don't really care right now what I call all those miscellaneous techniques just as long as I have something to call them that makes sense.
Thanks for your insights.
