Low cost iaido black uniform?
I am insearch of a low cost black Iaido uniform. My instructor sells them at $150 and I feel that its a bit too pricey. Any suggestions?

Re: low cost iaido black uniform?
Try E-Bogu.com. The owner is a 7th or 8th dan kendoka and stocks almost anything related to the sword arts. I've been very happy in my dealings with them.

Re: low cost iaido black uniform?
Mr. Chao,
I just checked and they do have the black Iaido gi and on sale too. $ 49.00 for the gi and a gi/hakama combination is $ 89.00. That seems like reasonable pricing, but I don't know your equipment at all.

You can try alot of our's friend, Peter Boylan. Not necessarily "cheap", but price is realitive. Peter sells good quality at a fair price.

I would suggest that you take a careful look around the dojo. You might also have a chat with a senior student of your instructor.
Maybe it's not an issue. Maybe it is. Just take a moment to examine the situation carefully to see if there are other issues involved here that may take precedence over just how you "feel" as a retail consumer.
If, once you've done, you're sure it's not a problem, and you're not up for sewing, the gear from e-bogu really does offer good value for what you pay.
Best,
FL

Re: low cost iaido black uniform?
Along the lines of Mr. Little's post... Maybe there are some "value added" things that come along with spending a bit more and getting it through your sensei? Like your sensei's advice and help in getting the correct size and appropriate gear for your style? And maybe even a few other less tangible reasons why you may want to consider going through your sensei...
That said e-bogu has some nice stuff and is run by some very nice people.

Re: Low cost iaido black uniform?
Thank you all for your advice. I think I will go with the $89 uniform.

Very wise post this one.
While I'm personally always up for saving a buck, there is much more to martial arts training then being a "retail customer".
