Re: "super" high ranking yudansha?
Aside from just plain curious knowledge, it would be nice to verify the ranks of people you meet, and not just because they said so, from a third party. The USAF almost has something like this, but it's not that easy to find a particular person unless that person says "go to this web page, my name is listed there as a newly promoted rokudan." because it is listed by date. (Would be a nice idea to suggest that they have an alphabetical list or something "searchable") errr. I think google or yahoo would work if you know what terms to apply.

Re: "super" high ranking yudansha?
I think the list would be better with the names listed "<last name>, <first name>" and sorted by last name. If I have time today, I'll make the changes myself.

The list seems to be in need of updating. How would one go about it?

Great, Jun.
I did a copy and paste from my MS Excel file at my office to the Aikiwiki. B'coz of this, I think, I was cut off from your server and could not assess it again. The next thing I did was to save the data on a txt. file at home and did a copy and paste. to load the data of the Aikikai Yudansha.
Can you allow me assess from from my office IP again?

Re: "super" high ranking yudansha?
I think Hiro Mochizuki the founder of Yoseikan World Federation (YWF) and son of Minoru Mochizuki was also a student of Morihei Ueshiba. Maybe Phil Farmer can confirm this for us.

Re: "super" high ranking yudansha?
I think there is a mistake on the names of the International Yudansha, on the 7th Dans there is the name of Mr Cottier; who is a 6th Dan.
Also the name of Terry Ezra is missing from the list of 6th Dans.
Thanks, Wayne

Hiroo Mochizuki Shihan is 8th Dan in Aikido and was a direct student of O'Sensei from 1948 until 1962.

In addition to Harvey Konisberg, you need to add Andy Demko of New Castle Aikikai and Eddie Hagihara of Long Island Aikido Association. Both are part of the USAF. They are also 7th dan and shihan.
Peter Bernath, Claude Berthiaume, Donovan Waite, Robert Zimmerman need to be edited as 7th dan and Shihan.
Other than Yamada and Sugano Sensei, here is a list of all the USAF Shihan, who are all now 7th dan as well. Source: http://www.aikidoeast.com/aikidoeast...structors.html
Eddie Hagihara Shihan, Long Island Aikido Association
Harvey Konigsberg Shihan, Woodstock Aikido
Clyde Takeguchi Shihan, Capital Aikikai
Claude Berthiaume Shihan, Aikido de la Montagne
Peter Bernath Shihan, Florida Aikikai
Donovan Waite Shihan, Aikido of Center City
Andy Demko, New Castle Aikikai
Robert Zimmermann, Toronto Aikikai

Hi Cito!. Kamusta! So what are you doing there and are you coming back to the P.I.?
Anyway,
The first one I mentioned is indeed in that list, and I have it from first hand knowledge (I had lunch with him, he told me) that he has officially resigned from Ki Society (Ki no Kenkyukai) of Koichi Tohei a couple of years ago. His group is now called Ki Association International. So at this point his rank becomes sort of irrelevant as neither Aikikai or Ki Society will recognize it. Basically he's stuck at nidan.
The other one is not there, although in a similar looking list he is (in between Rolando dela Cruz and Benjamin Galarpe). He also was (or is) with the 6th Dan you mentioned, primarily because of Nishio Sensei and the Iaido part. There's only one (1) 6th Dan Filipino as far as I know. The recent seminar I was referring to was the Takemori Sensei (7th Dan Aikikai) seminar which had Iaido and taijutsu classes. Takemori will return to the Philippines next year.
Yes, you are most fortunate to have had a Sensei, I plan on visiting one of these days when I venture up north to Pangasinan.

Hello David,
My name is Jonathan and I teach at my own Aikido dojo in NSW, Australia. I'm also one of Ernie Talag Sensei's long time students. This is a very interesting thread. Thanks for starting this. Anyway, I just wanted to inform you that Talag Sensei and Ki Association have just recently affiliated with the International Aikido Yuishinkai Association founded by Koretoshi Maruyama Shihan. Please refer to this link:
http://www.aikidoyuishinkai.com/dojodirectory.htm
So Ki Association has official recognition now from an International Association, being under Maruyama Sensei - who was an uchi deshi of O' Sensei, as well as Koichi Tohei Sensei's Chief Instructor for many years. Maruyama Sensei actually personally sought Talag Sensei and invited him to be his representative in the Philippines. Talag Sensei accepted.
Thanks and regards.

Hello Jojo,
Unfortunately, since moving to England, I have not had a chance to train with Batobalani Sensei. I am still in touch with him though. I will send him your regards.
I've practiced at various locations in the Southwest of England and in London. There is a group here in Plymouth affiliated with the Yuishinkai. They are good people.
Cheers!

Hi David,
As mentioned in my earlier post, Ernesto Talag Sensei has already officially affiliated with Aikido Yuishinkai International under Koretoshi Maruyama Shihan.
I would like to correct the statement you wrote above regarding Talag Sensei's rank. We have received official word that Maruyama Shihan has promoted Talag Sensei to the rank to Rokudan - 6th Dan.
In promoting Talag Sensei, Maruyama Shihan took into account both Talag Sensei's technical skill and experience as a teacher of Aikido for more than 30 years and his immense contribution to promoting the art in the Philippines and abroad.
