Where to find Gi top material?

I've been searching online trying to find a source of gi top material, like my single weave gi. I don't know if I am searching with the wrong terms or what, but I can't seem to find a place I could just buy a couple yards of that heavy material for a project I'm working on. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should be looking for or someplace I can order like two yards of that stuff?

Check upholstery stores (or the "Home" section of fabric and craft stores such as Joanne Fabrics) for cotton duck. The super heavy duty 16-20 oz canvas designed for tents and awnings is best avoided. Online you can also track down hemp/cotton blends that look like cotton but will last forever.

Cheers!

Re: Where to find Gi top material?

The last time I looked, the only way to get authentic judogi style weaves is to find a martial arts place willing to be middle man for you w/ the mills in Pakistan/India and be willing to order 50 meters!

There are some nice soft organic cottons plus cotton/hemp or hemp at http://www.nearseanaturals.com/

Yikes! Did I miss that? I was thinking Aikido / Karate Gi. If Judo gi, you're out of luck unless, as Janet says, you're willing to order several hundred yards of specialized fabric from abroad.

Re: Where to find Gi top material?

I'm thinking that probably Peter has hit upon the only reasonable solution for me.

Thanks to everyone for the replies.
