4/26/2001 1:08pm [from Jun Akiyama]

I just wanted to remind people that Morihei Ueshiba sensei passed away on this date, April 26th, back in 1969 at the age of 86. Are there any dojo that will be doing memorial services and such to mark his passing?

Not to answer my own question, but at the beginning of our Spring Seminar, our main instructor reminded us that yesterday was the anniversay of the founder's passing. He went on to say that although many dojo have elaborate ceremonies to commemorate this, his thought was that just as a parent who truly enjoys seeing his or her child grow and learn, he feels that the same must go for the founder's spirit. Rather than dwell on his passing, he asked us to reflect back on our training for the past year and feel how we've changed and grown. We sat for a minute in silence and then went on to start our two hours of training for the first evening of our Spring Seminar.
