Wish list - Whom to train with?

Who would be on your wish list to train with?

Either seminar or regular classes

for me (in no particular order)

Chiba Sensei
Tissser Sensei
Minegishi Sensei
Fukakusa Sensei

all these people have somethig that i really like, be it power, technique, flow or flair, , i would really like to have a chance to see them and uke for them in person

there are of course many many more but these are the ones that came to mind first

Re: Wish list - Whom to train with?

Andrew,
I've been to seminars with the two first people on your list. Not bad choices. If I Iimit myself to instructors I have not yet experienced, I'd choose any high ranking Iwama instructor or senior student of Nishio. I'd love to experience those styles in person.

As for my plans this year, I hope to add Doshu to the instructors I've seen first hand when he comes to Montreal in September.

Re: Wish list - Whom to train with?

Interesting question...

The logical answer would be to pick a high ranking Shihan I suppose.
However I would have to learn more about them... watch their style, as well as understand their philosophical approach to Aikido.

There are actually one or two people on the forums here perhaps that I would pick to train with despite the lack of a Shihan or even Sensei title, [Which is 3rd Dan here], due to the similarities in their philosophical approach to Aikido.

One of the qualities is an open mind about Aikido itself which includes a desire to cross-train, or at least understand how other arts integrate with Aikido for a more holistic martial arts view.

[This is not to exclude the spiritual aspect, which is as important as the above]

So Im sure those who are on a similar wave length know who you are.

I will add that I would love to have the opportunity to train with our Sensei, who happens to be 2 hours from our dojo approx., the guy is truly into the art and committed to it. [A shame I only see him once or twice a year.] Sensei Imre Marton who actually holds belts in Judo, etc. [I believe there is a difference when you see people who have cross-training in Aikido, a different perspective opens up new possibilities for them and to the students they teach.]

Peace

dAlen

Re: Wish list - Whom to train with?

there is this master ninja that i want to train with, but have a heck of time tracking him down. the darn bugger kept disappearing on me. wonder if i can learn stuffs from watching Ninja Assassin.

also want to learn from my evil twin. however, the bugger went on some safari searching for internal stuffs. wonder if he camped out in some dim sum place in china town. very unreliable bastard.

Seki Sensei

Of course, i'd like to see a few people but i'd like to practice under Seki Sensei, i have to say i was very much impressed when i saw him at summer camp. If you can describe his Aikido with one word, i'd say crisp.

Well, I'm away from my dojo, so I wish I could be training with the yudansha and mudansha their. I am currently near Baltimore, so hopefully there are good places nearby to train.

Re: Wish list - Whom to train with?

Assuming you mean alive instructors, I would base mine on current interests (internal energy, grounding, relaxation, power transfer).
Hiroshi Ikeda (I have attended his seminars in the past but he is working on my interests)
Kato Sensei (more time with him even though he is my sensei)
Mike Sigman to pick his brain on the energy and grounding stuff (non-aikidoka)
Russian systema top instructor-good relaxation training
Endo Sensei-also for good relaxation training
Ellis Amdur

Re: Wish list - Whom to train with?

I especially enjoy practicing with my current aikido partner(s).

My favorite seminar instructor is Clyde Takeguchi shihan from Capital Aikikai.

Myself......so I could more accurately feel and see what does and does not work.

But until the technology exists, Endo this spring and the Doshu in September, and Hagihara in between.

Re: Wish list - Whom to train with?

I would love to have a round and train with Steven Seagal Sensei or Chuck Norris. Yeah yeah, I hear it now, Chuck is not Aikido. The answer is, NO he isn't but he is the man. I would learn the meaning of pain....

Re: Wish list - Whom to train with?

I would love to train more with the following respected instructors:

Kondo (Daito-ryu -- who looks better and better and SKILLED)
Sigman (Internal Exercises: yes, its Chinese based -- get over it, I say to myself)
Ikeda (Aikido -- happy and going to aiki)
Threadgill (Shindo-ryu - Fastest white man I've seen and SKILLED)
Lovret (Who cares what they say, great teacher, great mindset)
Bookman (Aikido -- for the koshi nage, if I was younger and lighter and shorter)
Okomoto (Daito-ryu Aiki -- Alright, what the hell are the exercises?)

I would love to train at least once with the following respected instructors:

Certa (Daito-ryu -- what neat stuff in Daito-ryu did you see / study)
Okabayashi (Daito-ryu -- what neat stuff in Daito-ryu did you see / study / develop)
Kuroda (Fastest man I've seen and VERY SKILLED, bizarre style)
Kono (way out there but neat stuff, need a mental translator)
Harden (Aikijujutsu -- Does it work? Can it be taught? )
Kimura (Daito-ryu Aiki -- Alright, what the hell are the exercises?)
Aunkai (Aiki -- what the hell are the exercises and from where?)
Goldsbury (Aikido -- just to talk with about history)
Hozoin-ryu (any high level instructor)
Niten ryu (any high level instructor)
Hisa branch of Daito-ryu (any high level instructor, "Can I borrow your copy of the Soden?")
Yabusame (I hate horses but if I had that much money to afford it I could do that AND train with everybody listed above)
