Extra White Belts

I just purchased another gi which came with yet another white belt. Looking around I realize that I have a small army of white belts from all of my other keikogis. I really have no use for them. I thought about donating to the local GoodWill but I feel that it's unlikely they'll have any use for them (i.e., I'm just passing along my problem). I've googled around and haven't come up with much. Any ideas of what to do with them? I'd hate to throw them away.

Thanks.

Hi !

Extra belts can be a great tool for games and connection drills at childrens training

Re: Extra White Belts

I had the same thought yesterday. I bought another gi off eBay and got yet another white belt for my collection. To be honest, my first thought was to just sell them on. Usually with spare belts I'd give them to the dojo for people who pass tests, but everyone gets a white belt with their gi.

Re: Extra White Belts

I agree with Christian. At my dojo the kids' class has a long string of white belts tied end-to-end. They use them for tug-of-war and for laying out patterns on the mat for various games. Whenever I find another orphaned white belt at our dojo I throw it in with the kids' class equipment.

Re: Extra White Belts

Thanks for the ideas. Neither of the dojos I attend have kids classes but maybe another dojo in area could use them. I'll check around.

Re: Extra White Belts

If you used colored belts, you could dye them.

Re: Extra White Belts

Spares for the dojo for when someone loses or forgets to bring their belt?

Re: Extra White Belts

I agree with Sean - give them to your teacher so he (or she) has 'loaners'.

Re: Extra White Belts

You may ask people who do yoga. A lot of yoga practitioners use straps to help them stretch better. A yoga place may gladly take those off or your hands!

These games and connection drills are also a lot of fun in the big girls and boys classes.
When we do these kind of exercises, the biggest smiles are on the adult's faces.

Re: Extra White Belts

All my extra white belts get left with the spare keikogi in the dojo and then they go missing!
