Shodokan Dojo in Aylsbury U.K.

Hi Folks,

Does anyone know what the nearest Shodokan dojo is to Aylsbury in England? I don't have a detailed knowledge of U.K geography but I think it is in northern England. One of my colleagues is there for some months and would like to continue training if possible.

He has found Aikikai but would prefer a Shodokan dojo. I have sent him the site for the clubs under the UK Shodokan but like I said I am not sure where Aylsbury is so it is of little help.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
LC

Re: Shodokan Dojo in Aylsbury U.K.

Aylesbury is more in the south of England than the North. here is the Shodokan link - which you will probably have - it looks like the closest dojo is London and from a travel point of view either Bloomsbury or Angel would be the easiest from Aylesbury by Train. Could be about an hour's travel and I would reckon that Bloomsbury is the closest.

Trust this helps

Hi Larry,

I'm not Shodokan, but I'm only a 15 - 20 minute drive from Aylesbury, would be more than happy for your colleague to come visit.

regards

Bryan

Hi Brian,

Does your dojo have a website? Send me your information and I can forward it onto him in case he can't find a Shodokan school.

Thanks.

Hi Larry,

What Graham said! Aylesbury is north of London, which in the mind of many londoners makes it the north of the country. (If you go still further North, you fall off the edge of the world!)

If he's looking to train regularly, I think the commuting would be just too painful, a (temporary) change of style would seem to be the way forward.

If he's interested in a bit of a trip though, Scott Allbright (up in Sheffield - quite a long journey away) offers private tuition and can often be persuaded to lay on an extra session or two. (Anything for more training!) It might be worth giving him a call.

Will do that. Always wanted to train at Scott's dojo myself whenever I do make it to the UK.

Do you have any contact info for Scott or is it on the Shodokan UK website?

Thanks.

Re: Shodokan Dojo in Aylsbury U.K.

I've PM'd you some details.
Scott's mobile phone number is correct on the website, I'm not sure if the landline number is right or not, and I don't know if he's still using that email address (its pretty old) I'm afraid.
It'll be very good to see you if/when you finally do make it to the UK.

Cheers
Sean

Isn't it bad enough we have to put up with our own shodothugs without importing some more from the colonies?

Larry, PM for you

Ian,

When are you coming to York to train so we can "harmonise" together?.....

Go as far North as York? I shudder at the very idea, polar bear coats are extremely expensive these days and apparently you're no-longer allowed to shoot peasants up there? Sounds dreadful darling.

Seriously, I'm working on my partner with the old "plead, beg, whimper, throw tantrum - repeat ad-nauseum" routine with regard to getting to other dojos, so I may manage to tango your way at some point.

Stop watching Lost... Yeah, we cannot shoot peasants or scots anylonger. For those who care/are wondering, there was a law in York stating that it was the duty of any inhabitant of work to shoot any Scots with bow and arrow if said Scot was within city walls. it's been replled in the 1990.

I hope there's no similar law that allows one to shoot Trinis.

Thanks for all the help so far folks. I've responded to most of you by PM. All this support from the U.K. Shodothugs and Aiki-Elves have almost made me misty eyed... sniff..

Almost.

Yann, Sean, Ian - Right now plans are in the making so it is possible that I may be able to make it up to the U.K in the latter half of 2007. Will definitely let you guys know when things get finalized.

Thanks.

Re: Shodokan Dojo in Aylsbury U.K.

Look forward to the invasions if/when they occur. Just remember I'm a delicate little flower of the aiki-bunny variety (with affidavits to prove it) so may need the odd lie-down in the dojo when first exposed to a shodothug in the flesh so to speak.
