Re: Quotes that inform your training...

A newbie to Aikiweb here.

"Gryka's life was violent, dangerous and would be short by human standards even if she lived to her full potential lifespan - but it was, as far as I could tell, completely free of self-doubt . . . Hazrah nachti, I thought. I wished humans could find that center, and realized I'd settle for finding it myself, because even that was more than mot of us ever accomplished in our lifetimes."

"Sometimes the truth is so perfect that it leaves you speechless, simply because there is nothing to be added or subtracted, nothing to do but admire its terrible beauty even as it rips out your still beating heart and sterilizes the bleeding cavity."

It's a toss up between:

Hips don't lie (Shakira)

I'd agree with you (if you were right)

and

Even a blind squirell occasionally finds a nut

Re: Quotes that inform your training...

A "not to be named" instructor once told me:

"You SUCK today... Come back tomorrow."

Realistic, truthful, yet hopeful for the future. I have never forgotten it.

Re: Quotes that inform your training...

Here's one from my sensei, from a particularly difficult class last week: "What you're after is very close to chaos." I think I understand intuitively what he meant (especially from the context), but damned if I can explain it. Very close to chaos...but not chaos at all.

In Japan, when you hold up your little finger you're referring to a girlfriend or other female lover.

Best,

Chris
