Re: Committed attack... a cliche?

I totally agree with you. I trained in Tae-Kwon-do and kick boxing for about 20 years before I started Aikido. I love Aikido but it is a much more difficult art to master than a traditional striking art. Because of this you really, really, really need to be proficient to deal with the non-committed attacks a good striker will implement. With that being said many Aikido techniques are very practical in daily life. Especially in the US where the law says you cannot do more damage to an attacker than the intent he had to do to you. It's more difficult to minimize damage when striking. Also I believe a true master of Aikido is more than a match for a master of a striking art. I just believe it takes a very long time, a good instructor and a great commitment to reach that level. It's what I strive for but have a very, very long way to go.
