Re: Wow, back and sore
I hear that! I started training again about three years ago after a three year break. It's hard at first, but you quickly remember how much fun it is. It took me about a month to get back in the swing of things. After that it was like I'd never been gone. Well good luck to you and welcome back.

Re: Wow, back and sore
<unkemi> fruedian slip?- I often practice unkemi instead of ukemi. not intentionally though!
No offense, just thought that was a great name for the awkward flopping that happens sometimes.
Welcome back

Re: Wow, back and sore
"Unkemi"? That's great!
That gets my imagination going... How 'bout:
"runkemi" where uke doesn't fall, he just runs it out across the mat
"pukemi" too much, too fast
"punkemi" is what you have to take for that smartass newbie with something to prove (also called "newkemi")
"skunkemi" when uke did not wash his gi
"funkemi" will be understood only by George Clinton fans
"viewkemi" when uke has ripped his pants, or a female has a wardrobe malfunction
"stun-kemi" when you land on your head
"phewkemi" tacos for lunch
"chewkemi" when you bite your tongue
"flewkemi" is a particularly aerial breakfall
"roo-kemi" practiced primarily in Austrailia
"blacknbluekemi" needs no explanation
There MUST be more.... Any contributions?

Re: Wow, back and sore
I'm just getting back myself after about 4 years. It was like coming home again. What's interesting is that I never really stopped thinking about Aikido in that time, so it felt very natural to pick up where I left off... except for ukemi! I feel your pain, man.

I know what you mean about never stopping thinking about it, I really dont know what took me so long to get back into it, I am making a few minor mistakes with some techniques, but we did shihonagi the onther night and it felt like I never left. And to add on to the ukemi thing, I also remebered what it feels like when you land half on the mat half off the mat....still no fun

Re: Wow, back and sore
after day four my knees are killing me, we did a bunch of seated against standing techniques(yeah I know the right word but Im not going to attempt to spell it) and my knees are both bruised and sore as hell, still good to be back though, maybe I should make a blog instead of continuing this thread
