If you have a kohai and that person is promoted above you, they don't become your sempai. They're still your kohai, they just happen to outrank you.

To the main point of the thread, both Dan and Lynn have said pretty much what I would. Whether it's someone else or myself, the grade is irrelevent, all that's important is how I practice.
