West Coast Tai Kai

Just a quick plug for the rapidly approaching West Coast Tai Kai at the Costa Mesa Hilton in California for my good friend Tony. It is running Friday August 31 (seminars and the Embu Friday night) and Saturday (competitions). Here is something I clipped from their website.

Quote:
The West Coast Taikai is proud to present an evening of demonstrations by some of the top ranking teachers in Japan and the US. Friday evening in the Catalina ballroom, spectators will be treated to a display of both ancient and modern Japanese sword arts. A gathering of teachers such as this has only been matched by the 1st Annual West Coast Taikai. Demonstrations will be from:

Mugai Ryu Iaihyodo

Toyama Ryu

Zen Nihon Batto Do Renmei

Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu

Shin Shin Sekiguchi Ryu

Shindo Muso Ryu
If you're familiar with the names you should realize how great the embu is. Last year was phenominal. In terms of instructors (and demonstrators) are Niina Toyoaki Gyoksui (Mugai), Hataya Mitsuo Yoshitoki (Toyama, ZNBDR), Shimabukuro Masayuki (MJER Iai), Sakaida Yoshiemon (ZNBDR), Mukai Masaharu (Toyama and Kendo), Carl Mcclafferty (Shin Shin Sekiguchi Ryu), Brian Stokes (Suio Ryu), Dave Drawdy (Nakamura Ryu, Mugai Ryu), Bob Elder (Toyama Ryu, ZNBDR), and of course "Big Tony" Alvarez (Mugai, Toyama Ryu, etc.).

Ted Tenold (Legacy Arts Swords, Moderntosho (my partner in that)) will be doing a sword appreciation seminar as well. Lots of very nice antiques to study.

This is open to the public although I don't know if they charge admission for the general public.

There will also be a "Vendor's" room with lots of people represented. From production swords to antiques to modern made stuff (I've been informed that I will have a table and should put some stuff out ).

Anyway, Aikido claims a strong foundation in the sword arts. If you want to see an amazing cross section of sword arts the tai kai is the thing to see.

Re: West Coast Tai Kai

This is a great event.
Highly recommend it to everyone, no matter what their style.
Worth the watch.
Be there, or be someplace else.
