Ai symbol 9 Defensive Steps Thing

Has anyone done a sword kata(two person) where it goes shomen x2, yokomen x2, chest whack x2 and hiza kiri x2 then thrust to the throat?

This may not be the best descripotion I could give, but try and picture it. Note that the defender parries by doing the same thing as the atcker.

Re: 9 Defensive Steps Thing

Hi Lawrence,

I can't say I've done the precise exercise that you mention above, but we do a pattern of shomen, yokomen, do (torso), kote, ashi, tsuki at times. The person receiving the attacks, though, doesn't just respond with the same "attacks" as their defense in the exercise that we sometimes do.

Re: 9 Defensive Steps Thing

I have done the exercise described by Jun Akiyama when visiting a Saotome dojo in Columbus, Ohio. That federation has great weapons and I bet you can find every imaginable exercise demonstrated by one of their yudansha. If you come across a name for the exercise that started this thread i would love to hear it. I find it's much easier to identify and refine technique when I can jog my Sensei's brain with a recognizable title. The other person worth asking is Ron Tisdale. He's a walking encyclopedia.
