An extension of the dojo brawl

The thread on the dojo brawl got me thinking. We need a competition for the senseis. One of my senseis is a master at ridiculous metaphors and similes. For instance, as he says often about nikkyo: how does a snake climb a tree? Snakes got no arms!

So... I propose a competition between senseis for the silliest metaphors. Some comic relief after the contestents in the brawl exit on stretchers. Prizes to include squishy tomatoes.

Re: An extension of the dojo brawl

One of my instructors used to tell us to stop doing "gokiburi Aikido" when we didn't complete every movement swiftly and sharply at the right place but instead moved our hands around trying to find the right spot to hold to do nikajo or whatever.

For those of you who don't know "gokiburi" is Japanese for cockroach so his analogy of what we were doing with our hands was pretty graphic for me...hands scuttling around like cockroaches trying to find nikajo...yuch.

I now use that analogy with my students (but I always give credit to my instructor for thinking it up...no way I want people to think I came up with that by myself)

Unfortunately my own sensei would fail a silly quotes contest, seeing as pure wisdom constantly flies from her mouth. Nothing silly there!

Suck up.

"All I want to do is ikkyo." Doesnt sound silly but has taken on a rather special place in our hearts.
