Experience
Are we now to presume that practioners with a certain amount of experience LESS than others are not allowed to post?
I thought that was why we had msn.

In reply to Mark's question:
I am curious; what prompted your question?
Personally, I welcome the inexperienced because they often bring fresh insights and remind us to focus on the basics. They can also revitalize us with the energy and enthusiasm that usually accompanies starting something new. On the mat, I have had many a beginner show me that my kote-gaeshi, shiho-nage, kokyu-nage, etc (pick any) is not at the level I had thought it was . Sometimes I can even manage to avoid commenting on their "bad ukemi" and focus insted on why I'm losing it. If we are to welcome the inexperienced into our dojos so that Aikido can flourish, why not welcome them in our discussions?
Finally back from the field and three showers later ...Regards, Brad.

Hmmm...I'm curious, too.
Are you responding to something from another thread or heading?
I'm a bit lost here.

I am a bit lost as well, I was in bed when this strange post was made.
I will interrogate my teenagers about it.
I can only apologise to everyone.

Quite all right! Think nothing of it! I have teenagers who do the IM thing, too.
Good luck! Teenagers are a double handful.

Teenagers
LOL, all.
With no disrespect to teenagers, it will be another nine years until I have to deal with that challenge in my house
Then I might just WANT to be in Korea .
Just kidding.
I think.

I think that we should change the employment laws so that we could employ fourteen and fifteen year olds at a low rate. It would be a great investment as they would be cheap to hire, yet they know everything!
And yes, I have the curse of teenage daughters.
Have fun.

Teenage daughters
James:
I have only one child, a four year old son. My wife and I would like to have a daughter soon. Just wondering...are yours dating yet? If so, have you ever felt the urge to use the "Dark Side" of Aikido on their suitors?

Heehee! Me too, Jim, but mine are a true blessing.
One of mine said yesterday, "I love aikido. I can't wait until next class."

My two darlings are sixteen and seventeen and yes, they have started dating. Luckily their suitors are made well aware of my abilities at "human origami" by my daughters, together with my history as a competetive combat pistol shooter. It's surprising how polite these boys can be!
Have fun.

I have to daughters. They're two and four years old, but one of the reasons I went back to Aikido practice after a 3½ year break is in anticipation of the moment when they first start dating. I plan on greeting the young fella' with the words: "You seem like a nice young man - grip my wrist please"....
Quite possibly he will think twice before going against my wishes, if I introduce him to nikkyo first....

Jim, your comment on employing teenagers because they know everything, as well as the memory of a teenage beginner whom I encountered last year who genuinely thought he knew *all* martial arts (obviously we didn't see him after the first class, I think he realised he was too good for us ;-) ) reminded me of this, attributed to Mark Twain:
"When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years."

LOL!!! ROTFL!!! Jørgen Jakob Friis, that's funny!
My expectation is that my girls' own soon-to-appear abilities will instill a sense of awe in their guys. Till then, I'll keep telling them that my ex is nearly 7 feet tall (true).

teenagers
James:
The competitive combat pistol shooting is a nice touch.
Jorgen:
I can imagine you following your greeting with "No, really grab my wrist....harder...now punch with your other hand....."
When my wife and I were dating, her father visited for a week. I learned that he earned a battlefield commission and a Silver Star in Korea, his records from Vietnam were "sealed", and he retired and became a gun dealer in Chicago. I've always been on my best behavior.

Michael, all joking aside daughters are great. However for the rest of your life you will no longer be a person in your own right, you'll be introducing yourself as her father. Hell, a small price to pay, enjoy every minute you have with her. I once read a poem (which I think my father wrote about my sister).
"The day I knew we both were growing old was when she took my arm and not my hand.
First shyly, but with each step growing bold as if she wanted me to understand that she was no longer to be led, but that I would do to lean on until she learned to fly".
Have fun.

Michael:
Congratulations. I remember my new daughter like it was yesterday (she made me a grandpa 2 years ago). It's a special time. Enjoy.
