YouTube: Jenny Flower: Ai Hanmi Iriminage

Here's an Aikido video of Jenny Flower (6th dan, Athens Aikido) teaching aihanmi iriminage at Brooklyn Aikikai in December, 2014.

From her website: Jenny Flower is chief instructor of Athens Aikido. She began her training in Norwich, England in 1989 before moving to San Diego two years later to train under T. K. Chiba Shihan for three years in the Kenshusei program living for one year as Uchideshi at San Diego Aikikai. During this time she was also fortunate to train extensively under M. Murashige Shihan who she considers to be an important teacher for her. In 1997 she moved to Greece and founded and ran Athens Aikikai for nearly ten years before establishing Athens Aikido in 2008. She currently holds the rank of 6th degree black belt and is a Birankai International certified instructor (Shidoin). She is Chairman of the Hellenic Birankai Teaching Committee.

What are your thoughts on this video?

Very nice angles on the takedown. I appreciate the instructor's posture as well, quite stable no matter where uke winds up going.

I suspect a less cooperative uke could shut the entry down.

To my eye (FWIW) she's controlling everything but the center. Her posture is very nice.

I realized my reply was ambiguous and could be construed as the center of the uke where I meant the center of the interaction. It was too late to edit. As strong as her technique looks, she appears to my eye, to leave herself open.

Good Good! But ineffective Irimi-Nage. I'd put more emphasis on posture, and hand movements.

A good stance and posture reflects a proper state of mind

Re: YouTube: Jenny Flower: Ai Hanmi Iriminage

I'm worried about the direction that this thread seems to have taken. Uncooperative ukemi is foolishly dangerous, and is contrary to the customary practice of aikido.

This instructor is giving a good demonstration of the "dead point" uke drops into at the beginning of iriminage. She controls uke's balance and does not throw her partner into the audience.
