Man's Knife vs. Woman's Knife

The following is a more Yang/male style of using the knife. It is more percussive and designed to be a bit more muscular.

If you watch closely the female style vs. the male style you will see distintive yin/yang patterns of male and female energies.

Man's knife to Old Man's Knife

Seminar in Rome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXEUQSKDKkE

Most young men are intrigued with the knife as a "slashing weapon". Their technique is big and wide. There is no thought of honing the techique.

Here you will see how the knife transforms to the "open hand" which transforms to the "Staff".

About the commentary on using the staff near the end of that video ;
Centrifugal force hardly contributes to the impact of a swung stick by the way, maybe you could say "we use a longer stick because it hits harder" without bringing gravitational force and centrifugal force into the discussion.

Oxford English Dictionary wrote:
centrifugal force
• noun Physics : A force, arising from the body’s inertia, which appears to act on a body moving in a circular path and is directed away from the centre around which the body is moving.

The following is a video of Man vs. Woman Knife. In it, the competitors are fighting freestyle with the "restriction" of the 3 trees:

Re: Man's Knife vs. Woman's Knife

Man's knife Stylized

Notice the drumming in the background...

The players are dancing to the sounds of the environment. They co-ordinate their movements to the drum beat. They do so as a "restriction" which teaches creativity through the interval of the prescribed beat.

I would never teach this to a police officer who needs to police, nor to a special forces type who needs to be quick and efficient. These movements are stylized.

However, I would teach this to a boxer, police officer, or special forces type who wants to expand his knowledge and go beyond his box, style, and belief system.

Sincerely

They don't seem to be 'competitors' 'fighting'.
Why are they moving so slowly and not using their full reach?
What are the restrictions on this exercise?

(And what about that centrifugal force correction in my earlier post?)
