Stranger Among You

Hello to all,
I have joined this site to help educate myself to Aikido.I have been studying Okinawan karate since 1969.I was honored and fortunate to be trained by the late Soke Robert Murphy. My training through him has a great degree of Shaolin-tzu influence.I have always had interest in Aikido but never took the time to investigate further. Now that I have time I seek to learn from others.
I am a former police officer (NJ), and Marine.I now live in sunny Florida.
I am honored to be sharing thoughts with so many knowledgable people.
Thanks for your invite!

I only learned of Robert Murphy's passing a couple of days ago. I started my martial arts training with Shodokan Judo in the early 60's and was began taking Aikido in 1964. In the early 70's, after being unsuccessful in finding another Aikido instructor, I began taking Isshin Shorinji Ryu Okinawa Te from Sensei Murphy. I studied with him until I moved to California in March of '75.

He's been on my mind a lot lately so I finally looked him up on the web hoping to contact him and see how he's been doing all these years. I'm saddened to find that he's passed away. I have many fond memories of his classes. He had a profound influence on me.

I don't know if he ever spoke of Aikido, but he was actually quite skilled at it and incorporated many of the "harmony" aspects into his style.

Thanks Adam. I live in Santa Monica CA and am currently training under Larry Novick. He's the best Aikidoka and teacher I've run into all these years and I've been with him probably for about 15 years now...

Re: Stranger Among You

Reminder folks - this is a resurrection of an old thread with a change of topic, the OP has nothing to do w/ its resurrection and surely doesn't need direction to a new dojo....
