Training dummy

I'm a craftsman, so I invent and make random things. I've made a life size dummy with articulating arms made from rubber stage prop hands. The rest of the body is just duct tape, plastic, and cardboard. It can be used for practicing punching and kicking, but also for applying wrist locks of every sort, and some throws. It has to be able to stand upright on its own, so it has no flex in it's knees. Also, there's no bones, so the arms just keep twisting and bending, which unfortunately makes ukemi unlikely. It only weighs 25 pounds, which makes it an unrealistic body weight, but very convenient for training and transportation purposes.

Not only is this a great training tool because you don't have to worry about hurting uke, but it actually allows you to strengthen your fingers and wrists simply by holding uke's hand/arm in the position in question. Normally uke would be tapping like all get out if you were putting that much pressure and strength into the submission hold, but this uke feels no pain. Just twist and hold until your hand and forearm tires. If you are feeling rambunctious you can slam uke down, but keep in mind YOU have to pick him back up!

I certainly can't be the only person to have used something like this. Anyone else ever used anything similar?

Re: Training dummy

i thought aikido training dummy would be 5'7", medium build, tend to throw him/herself for no apparent reason.
