Just for Curiosity

Yes, I am curious, what people think, when they start threads with meaningful subjects, like
"Just want to know.."
"I have a question:"
"What to do when?"
"How to do it correctly"
"Can you help me?"
Etc. etc.

Sometimes I read them on purpose, but very often I skip them and I might have missed some interesting ones. Probably I do not count, as I am just a junior aikidoka, but I guess there are others, who are too busy to watch each of those threads.

On the other hand, what makes you read those threads, e.g. why are reading this one. Is it possible, that it is a good trick not to show the subject in the subject, in order to make people curious.

I would never blame the newbies, who start their introduction with "Hello...". They just start and that is fine. But if you want to get help, you better try to find an interesting and meaningful subject.

Other opinions?

Kind regards Dirk

Re: Just for Curiosity

You're right though Dirk, the art of naming threads is a sneaky one.

Re: Just for Curiosity

I read them for a variety of reasons. First, no matter how mundane the question may seem, it is probably important to the one asking. Second, they can be thought provoking, allow one to see something from another point of view and finally they can spawn some interesting conversation.

Re: Just for Curiosity

I usually read threads that deal with philosophical issues or conceptual issues. I also like to address things such as "reality based training" or budo, spirituality, "aikido doesn't work" etc.

I don't get too involved in the "how do you do this" thread or specific techniques too often as I don't think you can convey these things well on aikiweb. That and it is a big responsibiity to be an instructor/sensei...these are the ones that need to be answering these questions...not me!

Re: Just for Curiosity

When a new thread pops up I'll always click on it just to read the initial post to make sure I'm not missing something I may want to contribute to or feel I can learn something from.

Usually if the first 1 or 2 posts don't seem to catch me though I ignore it from then on; Or I'll ignore it if it starts to drag on and seems to be going nowhere like "Aikido doesn't work in a fight". LOL

Harmony does not mean that there are no conflicts,
for the dynamic spiral of existence embraces both extremes.

Re: Just for Curiosity

Now, if a hundred new threads show up every day, and many keystrokes were required to access each one, I might have to "thin the herd", but as it is, there are few enough that it's no problem for me to read them all. It's what I do...

Re: Just for Curiosity

Wow, more than 250 views and 9 replies in less than a day for this thread.

Let us close this to go for more specific problems.

I would summarize this experiment by recognising, that meaningful subjects are not needed to be read.

Nevertheless I 'ld like to encourage everyone to put at least an idea of the subject in the subject, be it for assessing a wider audiance, especially in competitive times (many posts to read) or to provide the other forum members with some substance to get early to those threads they prefer

best regards Dirk

But those with meaningful titles get more read. I have visited the board several times since you started this thread, but not checked in up to now.
