RIP Raul Rodrigo

Hello,

I was very surprised to read on Facebook that Raul Rodrigo has recently passed away. Raul was a frequent contributor to the Aikiweb discussion forums. Sincere condolences to family, friends and aikidoka in the Philippines.

Re: RIP Raul Rodrigo

Having not been on here much in the last couple of years, I was just by sheer coincidence going through a couple of old PM messages from Raul sitting in my inbox. This was the first thread I saw after reading....

Sincere condolences.

Re: RIP Raul Rodrigo

So, so shocked and sad to hear of his passing. He is a leading figure in the Philippine Aikido community and very young.

I was looking forward to training with him my trip this march. If you want to really test your aiki, then HE was the guy you go to, nobody else and I mean nobody else. He was immovable. But even with such a strong strong build, his Aikido was graceful, light, effortless yet powerful. Highly knowledgeable and skilled in the martial arts, he is a true Aikidoka.

Rest in Peace Raul, you will be missed.

Re: RIP Raul Rodrigo

I had the privilege of training with Raul in several seminars conducted by various Aikido shihan in the Philippines. He was great to practise with and we always had short conversations afterwards. We also had good exchanges of information on Aikiweb, both in private messages and in the forums. He will be greatly missed.
Sa pamilya at kaibigan ni Raul, nakikiramay po ako.
(To the family and friends of Raul, I extend my most sincere condolences.)

Re: RIP Raul Rodrigo

I was about to post the news but I saw this thread. I am at the wake and sharing your post to the people here. We were with Raul just last night finishing up a 2 day seminar with Kuribayashi Sensei. So it was a shock to wake up and contact his wife Nancy to confirm the news and break the news to his aikido family. He was an encyclopedia of aikido history. He will be missed on and off the mat. Thank you everyone for your kind words.
