A beginning to a journey.

Hi everyone. I, like everyone else, believe your true journey in learning Aikido, begins at Shodan. I received my Shodan in May this year and have decided to continue my journey overseas next year. I will be travelling to either America or England. I will be overseas for 2 to 4 months, and am open to studying any style of Aikido within that time, until I return to Australia and resume my training in Takemusu Aikido. Can anyone suggest any dojos that stand out in these two countries. I would appreciate any information. Thankyou very much.

Re: A beginning to a journey.

Not meant to be the least bit snide but I would hope that each of us feels that our dojo is a great place to train. Perhaps a way to begin is an Aikido tour. If you can start with a big seminar like Aikikai Summer or winter camp or a comparable event in another federation then you will experience the styles of many dojos in a single series of sessions. You will likely even train with various sensei or even shihan. (I had a phenomenally enlightening series with Osawa Shihan when he decided to take part in Yamada Shihan's class as a student!) You could then decide which places you wanted to experience further. I hope Aikikai Philadelphia will be one of your stops and while you're here you should visit Donovan Waite, Shihan, Utada Shihan and Okimura Shihan. I'm sure the same sort of multiple experiences are possible in San Francisco (Shabata Shihan), Washington D.C. Takaguchi Shihan, Saotome etc) You get my point. Cheers.

Re: A beginning to a journey.

When you get to the UK, you can come and see me. We've had a quite a few vsitors lately from all over, including a fellow Aussie from an Iwama dojo in Melbourne!! If I had to recommend somewhere in the UK, it'd be my class .

regards

Bryan

A difficult problem is easily solved by asking yourself the question, "Just how would the Lone Ranger handle this?"

Re: A beginning to a journey.

Dunno about dojo but I would reccomend the following instructors in the uk:

Shihan Terry Bayliss.
Shihan Ken Cottier.
Shihan William Smith.
Sensei Terry Ezra.
Sensei Shane Riley.

They're all screaming about the rock n roll, but I would say that it's getting old. - REFUSED.
