Re: aspects of aikido

I think it really depends on how a martial artist practices; whether the style is Aikido or not doesnt matter. I think Aikido in theory is one of the most practical martial arts. This could be because we first start with moving off the line of attack...from there, there are a infinite number of technqiues that can be performed (joint locks, throws, strikes, etc). If you have blended with the initial attack...you have control of the situation. What you do from there is up to you.

Re: aspects of aikido

John, I believe that a practitioner of a "typical" Aikido style could greatly increase the practicality of what they're doing by doing some outside homework on striking.
It's not as much about you being able to strike, as about correcting your own perception of how the attacker can and will strike.

However, at your 3 month mark, I don't think you should scatter your focus in any other direction than your regular Aikido training. Yet.
This early, it is bound to only confuse you, frustrate you and your partners, and slow you down.

Don't believe everything you hear.

According to who? Based on what?
