Cool Moving to Vancouver Canada, looking 4 Aikido

I have been doing Aikido for almost a year now in Fair Oaks, California, and recently got accepted to school in Vancouver Canada. Does any one go to a dojo there? If not, any one know if Aikido is even tought there? Thanks!

Hi Robert,

I'm biased but I highly recommend checking out the Shohei Juku Aikido Canada dojo (formerly Pacific Aikido Kensankai). The sensei there is Tama Nakashimada (4th dan), a student of Morito Suganuma Shihan. Excellent, spirited training with a group of dedicated students. I began training there 10 years ago and just recently moved away. They are at 3350 Victoria Drive in Vancouver. They train M - F 6 - 7:30 pm and Sat mornings from 10:45 am. They're also the only dojo offering kids classes if you have children.

email aikitamachan@excite.com for more info.

Regards and good luck,

Russ

Robert,

Greetings from your neighbor in Orangevale. As posted above, there are many schools in Vancouver. Not knowing which paticular Aikido Organization you follow, you may wish to shop around to see what fits you best.

In Vancouver area, there are two Yoshinkan Aikido dojo's. One is Rokukan, Robert Mustard Sensei in Burnaby and the other is Godan, Keith Taylor Sensei in Maple Ridge.

Both can be found in our dojo directory at http://www.seikeikan.com/links.htm.

If you would like more information on Yoshinkan Aikido, I invite you to come visit us here in Orangevale. Our doors are always open and you are most welcome to come visit. Mat fee waived as you are my guest.

Kind regards ...

It's a bit of a drive east, maybe 5 hours from Vancouver, but in Nelson, BC there is an amazing teacher. Jean Rene Leduc, 5th dan, of Aikido Kenkyukai International. This is an Aikikai dojo under the auspices of Takeda Yoshinobu Shihan of Yokohama. Relatively unknown, incredibly dynamic, smooth and challenging. In the Liniage of Yamaguchi Seigo Shihan. Go to http://www.kootenayaikido.ca/index.html These are a very dedicated group of folks.
