Hickory Bokken

Can anyone suggest a site to buy a hickory bokken? Also, is there a standard length for a jo?

Thanks.

I dont know about the hickory bokken, but I know the length of a jo should be from the floor to just below your arm pit. The size will vary depending on the height of the person.

Try Kingfisher Woodworks or Bujin Design.

You can also try Bugei Trading Co. Their bokken have a slightly longer handle than most (which I like personally). I think the blade may be a little longer also (I don't have one yet so I can't say for sure)

I am writing just to let you know that I explored all the sites I could to research Jo products. I had almost decided on Kingfisher when I was very fotunate to discover that a fellow aikidoka (as well as my sensei) had purchased his pieces as well. I was very pleased to see that the quality that came out from his web/print material was as such in reality.

Also, he has quite a selection of styles of bokken and you can fine tune many of the dimensions to your specs.

Also, he has access to a kind of Appalachian Hickory that he works by hand - very strong and resilient and very beautiful.

10 of 10.

I hope to add a matching bokken to my jo as soon as possible.
